Reduce
Reducing means cutting down on the amount of garbage or trash. The best way to reduce is to only buy items you really need (Scott, 2004).
- What To Buy:
Waste reduction starts at the supermarket. By making slight alterations to your shopping list you can significantly reduce the amount of waste created in and around the classroom or home.
Buy what you need
Buy what you can reuse
Buy items you can sell or give away
Buy items which can be used multiple times
- What Not To Throw:
Many of the items that you would normally consider as rubbish could be used for other purposes. So, instead of throwing items away, reduce waste by using them for other purposes.
Did you know that a single liter of used oil can contaminate a million liters of water?
